Dear Colleagues and Friends,

The heroic Armed Forces of Ukraine have recently liberated the territory of the Radio Astronomy Observatory bearing the name of the outstanding radio scientist S.Ya. Braude. The Observatory had for years employed the world largest decameter-wavelength radio telescope UTR-2 which holds the status of National Heritage of Ukraine and, without exaggeration, would deserve such on behalf of the entire humankind.

The aftermath of the invaders’ criminal deeds is horrible. All sorts of radio and computer equipment have been destroyed or looted, with the Observatory buildings badly damaged or destructed. The whole of territory and the cable carrying tunnels of the Telescope have been mined.

Upon demining the territories and structures, we will seek to urgently protect the central building of the Observatory against autumn and winter-time precipitations. The central building has a crushed roof and damaged interfloor ceilings. The heating and water supply systems also require emergency conservation measures. On a later perspective, we hope to restore and revive the UTR-2 radio telescope.

As the war continues, the insidious and ruthless enemy never stops killing citizens of this country, destroying their homes and civil infrastructure. Therefore, the country's budget is aimed primarily at financing the Armed Forces of Ukraine and protecting people's lives. Under these circumstances, neither the government, nor the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine can allow themselves spendings for restoration of research facilities. That is why we have to appeal to the international scientific community for help. Our goal is to save the unique scientific instrument which the Telescope is, as its potential has not been fully exploited yet. We are asking all of our colleagues, who we have had years of scientific cooperation with, to help, with their financial contributions, saving the world-class instrument.

All the donations that we may have received from you or your institutions will be directed exclusively to restoration of the Observatory's technical infrastructure and buildings. We guarantee a detailed report on the related expenses.

Les héroïques forces armées ukrainiennes ont récemment libéré de l’occupation ‘ruzze’ le territoire de l’Observatoire de radioastronomie S.Ya. Braude. l’Observatoire a utilisé, pendant des années,le plus grand radiotélescope UTR-2 à longueurs d'ondes décamétriques, qui détient le statut de Patrimoine National de l'Ukraine et, sans exagération, le mériterait au nom de l'humanité tout entière.

Les conséquences des actes criminels des envahisseurs sont horribles. Le matériel radioastronomique et informatique a été détruit et pillé, avec les bâtiments de l'Observatoire étant gravement endommagés ou détruits.L'ensemble du territoire et les tunnels porte-câbles du Télescope ont été minés.Lors dudéminage des territoires et des bâtiments, nous chercherons à protéger de toute urgence le bâtiment central de l'Observatoire contre les précipitations automnales et hivernales. Le bâtiment central a un toit et des étages intermédiaires écrasés. Les systèmes de chauffage et d'approvisionnement en eau nécessitent également des mesures de conservation d'urgence. Dans une perspective ultérieure, nous espérons de restaurer et faire revivre le radiotélescope UTR-2.

Alors que la guerre continue, l'ennemi insidieux et impitoyable ne cesse de tuer des citoyens de notre pays, détruisant nos maisons et infrastructures civiles.Par conséquent, le budget du pays vise principalement à financer les forces armées ukrainiennes et à protéger la vie des gens. Dans des conditions aussi tragiques, ni le gouvernement, ni l'Académie Nationale des Sciences ne peuvent pas se permettre des dépenses pour la restauration des installations de recherche. C'est pourquoi nous devons faire appel à la communauté scientifique internationale pour obtenir de l'aide. Notre objectif est de sauver un instrument scientifique unique, dont le potentiel n'est pas encore pleinement exploité. Nous demandons donc à tous nos collègues, avec qui nous avons de nombreuses années de coopération scientifique, d'apporter leur contribution financière pour sauver un instrument de classe mondiale.

Tous les dons caritatifs que nous pourrions recevoire de vous ou de vos institutions seront exclusivement destinés à la restauration des infrastructures et des bâtiments de l'Observatoire. Nous vous garantissons un rapport complet sur les dépenses de vos donations.
